One Hour • Brian's Advice

Bring the problem. Brian will tell you what he thinks.

This is not therapy. It is a structured consultation built around your questions and Brian's judgment, experience, and practical advice. Bring a decision, problem, plan, document, or situation. Brian will ask enough questions to understand it, tell you how he sees it, point out what you may be missing, compare realistic options, and explain what he would do next with the same facts and constraints.

Leave with a clearer call, a recommendation, or specific next steps. This is not an hour of open-ended exploration.
What You Can Bring

Bring the problem you want Brian's read on.

These are examples, not separate services. You can bring one issue or several. If the conversation crosses categories, that is fine. The hour follows the actual problem.

01

Mental Health, Recovery & Real Life

For people who want direct guidance around a mental-health, addiction, relationship, recovery, identity, or treatment question.

  • Understanding treatment options and levels of care
  • Questions about addiction, recovery, relapse, or rebuilding
  • Career loss, being fired, reinvention, and starting over
  • Finding the right therapist, program, assessment, or resource
  • Supporting someone without rescuing, controlling, or enabling
  • Getting Brian's read on a relationship or family situation
02

Clinical Work & Private Practice

For clinicians who want Brian's judgment on a case, a clinical decision, or the actual work of building and running a private practice.

  • Case formulation, treatment direction, boundaries, and impasses
  • Addiction, trauma, attachment, couples, and co-occurring concerns
  • Billing, insurance, payer mix, credentialing, and self-pay strategy
  • EHRs, documentation, scheduling, policies, and workflow
  • Rates, services, referrals, marketing, capacity, and practice decisions
03

Content Creation

For people who want practical advice on turning what they know into useful public-facing content without making it generic, bloated, or forgettable.

  • Podcast concept, positioning, episode ideas, and structure
  • Articles, educational content, and long-form writing
  • What to cut, what to keep, and what is not working
  • Turning expertise and lived experience into clear content
  • Connecting content to a practice, service, or professional identity
04

Business, Systems & Big Decisions

For business owners and people trying to make a real decision without getting buried in ten competing options.

  • Turning an idea or area of expertise into a paid service
  • Pricing, cash flow, capacity, budgeting, and sustainability
  • Software, AI tools, websites, SEO, automation, and workflow
  • Vendors, contractors, hiring, delegation, and bottlenecks
  • Major projects, competing priorities, risk, and tradeoffs
  • What Brian would do next and why
How It Works

Bring the facts. Get Brian's read. Leave with direction.

You do not need to organize the problem perfectly before the appointment. Give Brian the context, answer the questions he needs to ask, and use the rest of the hour on analysis, advice, and next steps.

BEFORE

Send the Basics

Share a short description of what you want to discuss and the main questions you want answered. If a de-identified document would help, mention it in advance.

DURING

Get Brian's Read

Brian will ask enough questions to understand the situation, then give you his assessment and advice. He may tell you your plan is weak, your assumptions are off, a risk is being underestimated, or one option makes more sense than the others. He will explain what he would do and why.

AFTER

Leave With a Recommendation

You leave with a concrete direction: a recommendation, a decision, a short list of realistic options, or specific next steps.

Advice Based on Actual Work

Brian has worked in clinical care, recovery, private practice, and business.

Brian Granneman, LMHC, CAP, CCTP, brings experience from law enforcement, child protective investigations, community mental health, addiction treatment across multiple levels of care, private practice, and business ownership. He also brings lived experience with addiction, recovery, being fired, losing a career identity, starting over, and building a new profession and successful practice from the ground up.

He has personally dealt with billing, insurance, EHR systems, documentation, scheduling, websites, SEO, pricing, technology, vendors, cash flow, service design, and the daily problems involved in making a business function. He also hosts Doing the Work, a long-form mental-health podcast with more than eighty published episodes. The advice comes from work he has actually done, not just material he has read about.

Podcasting

Podcast advice from someone who has actually built and produced one.

Doing the Work is Brian's long-form podcast about relationships, recovery, conflict, avoidance, habits, and the patterns that keep people stuck. Producing more than 100 episodes has required concept development, writing, interviewing, recording, editing, publishing, distribution, and continuing to make the show long after the novelty wore off.

Doing the Work

Listen to the show if you want a direct sense of Brian's voice, judgment, clinical thinking, and the way he works through an idea.

This is consultation, not psychotherapy. Consultation may include education, treatment navigation, decision support, clinical peer consultation, business strategy, and practical recommendations. It does not include diagnosis, psychotherapy, crisis care, formal clinical assessment, licensure supervision, continuing-education credit, legal advice, accounting, or tax services. Clinical material must be de-identified. Personalized mental-health guidance depends on the participant's physical location, the nature of the question, and applicable law.
Common Questions

What consultation is — and what it is not.

Who can schedule a consultation?

Individuals, partners, family members, clinicians, practice owners, creators, podcasters, professionals, and business owners can schedule. The topic and your physical location determine the scope of what Brian can provide.

Is this therapy?

No. Consultation is advice-based. Brian gives you his read on the situation, answers questions, compares options, makes recommendations, and explains what he would do next. Psychotherapy is a separate clinical service.

Can I ask personal mental-health or addiction questions?

Yes. Brian can provide education, treatment navigation, practical guidance, and recommendations within the limits of your location and the nature of the question. Consultation is not a substitute for psychotherapy, formal assessment, or crisis care.

Can I ask Brian about his recovery or career reinvention?

Yes. Brian is open about addiction, recovery, being fired, losing a career identity, starting over, becoming a therapist, and building a practice and business. You can ask what helped, what failed, what he would do differently, and what he would recommend based on what you are facing.

Can I discuss a clinical case?

Yes. Clinical material must be de-identified. Brian can give his formulation, identify missed angles, discuss treatment direction, and tell you what he would consider doing next. The treating clinician remains responsible for the client and all treatment decisions. This is not licensure supervision.

Can we work on my private-practice numbers and business decisions?

Yes. Bring the numbers. Brian can review rates, payer mix, capacity, service design, scheduling, workflow, insurance strategy, self-pay strategy, and operational decisions. Legal, tax, accounting, employment, and regulatory questions still belong with the appropriate licensed professional.

Can we get specific about billing, insurance, EHRs, websites, or business systems?

Yes. Brian can give practical advice based on his own experience with billing, insurance, payer mix, self-pay transitions, EHRs, documentation, scheduling, websites, SEO, technology, automation, pricing, vendors, and workflow.

Can you help me start or improve a podcast?

Yes. Bring the concept, draft, problem, or current show. Brian can give direct feedback on positioning, audience, episode structure, scripting, interviewing, workflow, consistency, and how the podcast fits with the rest of your work.

Can I bring more than one question?

Yes. Bring everything you want to cover. Brian will help prioritize the list and spend the hour where his advice is most useful.

Do I have to book ongoing consultation?

No. Book one session or come back periodically when you have another decision or problem you want Brian's help with. There is no package or recurring commitment.

What should I send before the session?

Send a short description of the situation and the questions you want answered. Record review or work requiring significant preparation may require additional time and a separate fee agreement.

Consultation is an advice-based educational, navigational, clinical-peer, and strategic service. Scope depends on the participant's physical location, the nature of the questions, and applicable professional regulations.
